 Destination Tango… immediate departure

"In a century, tango, born in marginal neighborhoods, has become its birth country’s symbol. It’s the reflection of a society that structured itself around hybrid elements. Porteña music is a mix between Creole and foreign rhythmic music. The Argentinian comes from a mix of Creoles, Italians, Spaniards and Jews, tango is its reflection". Ernesto Sabato

Tango is the Argentinian people’s expression and the witness of their evolution. Sometimes a form of resistance and sometimes confidential, it holds a deep affective meaning within itself. When you discover this music you meet a people, become aware of their history, enduring dictatorships, massacres, riots, and repression. This nation has held on to its sensitivity, its capability to live and endure such a suffering in everyday life, thanks to love, friendship, tenderness, wine, the past, memories and music.

Duo Sud

  • Lucia Abonizio, piano

Having performed on the international scene with diverse tango formations, Lucia Abonizio and Gilberto Pereyra, Argentinian musicians living in France, have chosen to team up and combine their personal styles by creating the « Duo Sud ». This instrumental duo offers a musical repertory of traditional tango and milongas as well as Astor Piazolla's Tango Nuevo. They have performed in many festivals and in some of the world’s most renowned scenes.

This duo gives a renewed vigor and expressiveness to tango, drawing its strength from its classical form, but with the coloration and sonority of jazz.
